On Stead

A shorter name and address: Stead

As of today, writerstead.com is now stead.page, a shorter, cleaner address for authors and writers who need a simple website. Old links redirect, and nothing else changes.

Short URLs Are a Must

Over the past month and a half since creating WriterStead, the length of the site's name has constantly bothered me. I've always known that the shorter and more memorable your URL is, the better.

That's especially true for authors who constantly have to give out their website address at book fairs, signings, and networking events.

We migrated the site over to the new address today.

Built for Writers First

Even with dropping the "Writer" part, Stead is still for writers first before others. That's because we're writers, and we need Stead for ourselves.

As writers, we've been maintaining a lot of websites. It seems easy enough to throw together a website, but the hard part is maintaining those websites and keeping them up to date. When you have to keep updating your personal site, company and imprint sites, and the website for each series you write, maintaining all of them gets tedious.

What This Means for You

Old links to writerstead.com will redirect to stead.page, so existing bookmarks, social posts, and links in author bios should keep working.

If you have WriterStead listed on your website, in your email signature, or on your social profiles, update your links to stead.page whenever it's convenient for you.

More Than Writers

The reality is that we're all multi-faceted people. We may be writers to one audience and feel guilty about posting about the D&D games we're hosting, or the art we're making, or the software we're writing.

The new Stead branding allows us to feel more confident about just posting whatever we feel like without worrying about going out of niche.
